This action-packed prequel novelization takes us back in time to when Fred Flintstone, a young guy from the wrong side of the boulder, was courting the beautiful Wilma Staghoople. Fred, Wilma, Barney Rubble, and his fiance Betty O'Shale head for Rock Vegas, where adventure awaits the! m! You're probably ready to write this one off as a novelty; after all, 13 of the 15 tracks have the word "rock" in their title. While the Flintstones may have been the coolest Stone Age family, they're still not the Rolling Stones when it comes to known "rockers." However, this is a strong collection of rockabilly and early-rock-influenced numbers. Once past the opening Flintstones Cast medley, things take off with serious aggression. Bill Haley and the Comets, Moon Mullican, the Johnny Burnette Trio, and B.B. King are among the established classic rockers included. The young whippersnappers hold up the tradition as well. Well-known rockologist (famous for his uncanny ability to approximate any genre with pathos) Nick Lowe is featured twice, and twisted outlaw country star Robbie Fulks and the Reverend Horton Heat keep things on track. Grammy nominee Susan Tedeschi contributes "Rock Me Right." Most important, the producers avoided the temptation of including Paul Simon's v! ery unrocking "Loves Me Like a Rock." Sometimes, it's the litt! le thing s. --Rob O'Connor FLINTSTONES YABBA-DABBA 2 PACK - DVD Movie

Citizen Kane (Two-Disc Special Edition)

Orson Welles’ timeless masterwork is more than a groundbreaking film. Presented here in a magnificent 70th anniversary digital transfer with revitalized digital audio from the highest quality surviving elements, it is also grand entertainment, sharply acted and superbly directed with inspired visual flair. Depicting the controversial life of an influential publishing tycoon, this Best Original Screenplay Academy Award Winner (1941) is rooted in themes of power, corruption, vanityâ€"the American Dream lost in the mystery of a dyin! g man’s last word: “Rosebud.”Arguably the greatest of American films, Orson Welles's 1941 masterpiece, made when he was only 26, still unfurls like a dream and carries the viewer along the mysterious currents of time and memory to reach a mature (if ambiguous) conclusion: people are the sum of their contradictions, and can't be known easily. Welles plays newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane, taken from his mother as a boy and made the ward of a rich industrialist. The result is that every well-meaning or tyrannical or self-destructive move he makes for the rest of his life appears in some way to be a reaction to that deeply wounding event. Written by Welles and Herman J. Mankiewicz, and photographed by Gregg Toland, the film is the sum of Welles's awesome ambitions as an artist in Hollywood. He pushes the limits of then-available technology to create a true magic show, a visual and aural feast that almost seems to be rising up from a viewer's subconsciousness. As Kan! e, Welles even ushers in the influence of Bertolt Brecht on fi! lm actin g. This is truly a one-of-a-kind work, and in many ways is still the most modern of modern films from the 20th century. --Tom KeoghOrson Welles’ timeless masterwork is more than a groundbreaking film. Far From Heaven (Blu-ray)

  • Far From Heaven
  • James Rebhorn,Dennis Haysbert
  • Dennis Quaid,Julianne Moore
  • Drama, romance
Cathy and Frank Whitaker, a seemingly perfect fifties' couple face the breakdown of their marriage because of conflicting desires.
Genre: Feature Film-Drama
Rating: PG13
Release Date: 24-AUG-2004
Media Type: DVDThis uniquely beautiful film--from one of the smartest and most idiosyncratic of contemporary directors, Todd Haynes (Safe, Velvet Goldmine)--takes the lush 1950s visual style of so-called women's pictures (particularly those of Douglas Sirk, director of Imitation of Life and Magnificent Obsession) to tell a story that mixes both sexual and racial prejudice. Julianne Moore, an amazing fusion of vulnerability and will power, plays a housewife whose husband (Dennis Quai! d) has a secret gay life. When she finds solace in the company of a black gardener (Dennis Haysbert), rumors and peer pressure destroy any chance she has at happiness. It's astonishing how a movie with such a stylized veneer can be so emotionally compelling; the cast and filmmakers have such an impeccable command of the look and feel of the genre that every moment is simultaneously artificial and deeply felt. Far from Heaven is ingenious and completely engrossing. --Bret FetzerJulianne Moore (Hannibal, Boogie Nights) and Dennis Quaid (The Rookie,Frequency) star in this seductive story of a seemingly perfect family, and the forbidden desires that threaten to tear them apart. Cathy Whitaker (Moore) has it allùa lovely home, two wonderful children and a handsome husband(Quaid), who is successfully climbing the corporate ladder. But Cathy's idyllic existence is just an illusion, and she is eventually forced to choose between living a lie or following her heart. Academy Award« nominee* Moore is a vision, declared Rex Reed, and he called Quaid's performance the best of his career, in this stunning drama hailed by the NewYork Post as one of the year's best.

Rex, Hollywood's top K-9 star, gets lost and is reluctantly adopted by a young boy. His father, fire chief of a rundown station agrees to the adoption only if his defiant son takes care of the K-9. Little do they realize Rexx will not only bring them closer but also bring some much-needed faith back to the fire station.

Adolescence is an emotionally stormy time for kids, but it's especially so for Shane (Josh Hutcherson), a teenager being raised by single firefighter father Connor (Bruce Greenwood). Add the recent death of Shane's fire-captain uncle (Connor's brother) in the line of duty and the pending closure of their neighborhood "Dogpatch" fire station, and both Shane's propensity for skipping school and brooding! in his room and his father's obsession with work seem easily explainable. When a mutt called Dewey, really a very spoiled superstar dog named Rexxx who's been presumed dead after a parachuting stunt gone wrong, turns up in a burning building and is rescued by the Dogpatch crew, Connor puts Shane in charge of caring for the dog and finding its owner. Shane and Dewey clash immediately and Shane is extremely resentful toward both the dog and his father. However, Dewey's special talents (like skateboarding and trampoline jumping), combined with his good fire-fighting instincts, soon win the admiration and affection of Shane and the entire Dogpatch crew. A series of mysterious fires causes Shane and Connor to begin to really communicate and reconnect, but those fires also threaten their very lives. At the same time, Dewey's former owner discovers Dewey's true identity and demands the return of his superstar companion. An engaging dog story that explores the difficulties of grow! ing up and dealing with personal tragedy, Firehouse Dog! is a fu n family film that's rated PG due to some mildly crude humor (think potty jokes), language, and action peril. --Tami Horiuchi

Papi (voiced by George Lopez), an amusing Chihuahua who's crazy about Chloe, springs into action and heads south of the border to rescue her, while Chloe gets help from Delgado (voiced by Andy Garcia), her newfound friend and self-appointed protector. Beverly Hills Chihuahua from Walt Disney Pictures is a heartwarming and outrageously funny tale proving once again that good things do come in small packages. It's a real treat for the whole family. This DVD has fullscreen or widescreen capabilities.

Bonus Features:
*Deleted scenes with introductsion by director Raja Gosnell
*Blooper scooper
*Legend of the chihuahua
*Feature audio commentary by director Raja Gosness (Widescreen version only)
Beverly Hills Chihuahua finds director Raja Gosnell back on the talking-dog beat (following his live-action Scoo! by-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleased), this time in an ambitious, tongue-in-cheek comedy with a fun cast of onscreen and vocal actors. Piper Perabo plays Rachel, niece of a Beverly Hills eccentric (Jamie Lee Curtis) who spends much of her fortune pampering Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore), a spoiled Chihuahua used to pacing through this world with booties on her paws. Chloe gets dog-napped while Rachel takes a vacation in Mexico, and finds protection from a misfit German Shepherd named Delgado (Andy Garcia), who has a painful secret in his past. The two get into and out of a lot of scrapes, trying to stay ahead of a vicious dog (Edward James Olmos) working for the head of an illegal dogfight gambling syndicate. Computer effects turn the film's many four-legged characters into talking critters capable of leaping onto train boxcars and leading the heroine into the Indiana Jones-like ancestral home of the chihuahua breed. The comedy is crisp and ki! d-friendly, the story of Chloe rise out of silliness into cani! ne authe nticity, plus the film's surprising ambitiousness, are all very winning. --Tom Keogh
